Description:

The School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania continues to expand rapidly. As a key pillar of these investments, the Department of Computer and Information Science is engaged in an ambitious, multi-year hiring effort for tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels. We have hired over 25 new tenure-track and tenured faculty, spanning all ranks, over the past 7 years.

We seek individuals with stellar research achievement and potential, who will excel in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and take a position of international leadership in defining their field of study. These individuals will promote and welcome wide-ranging viewpoints and experiences, and will work closely with students of all backgrounds. Leadership in cross-disciplinary collaborations is of particular interest. Successful applicants will find Penn to be a stimulating environment conducive to professional growth. Qualifications:

Applicants must have a PhD in Computer Science or a relevant discipline. CIS Practice Assistant Professor 2026

Position Description:

The University of Pennsylvania's Department of Computer & Information Science is pleased to welcome applications for experienced teaching faculty under the Practice Professor track. It is a very exciting time to be engaged in computer science education at Penn: we are experiencing incredible growth and interest in CS courses at all levels, are developing new on-campus and online learning programs, and are rapidly growing the size of our faculty (over 30 hires in the last 7 years).

We are seeking dedicated, accomplished, full-time faculty to teach undergraduate electives and Master's-level courses, particularly in areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence and data science, theoretical computer science, computer graphics, and cybersecurity, starting in July 2026. We seek individuals who promote and welcome wide-ranging viewpoints and experiences, and who will work closely with students of all backgrounds.

As part of teaching-track career path, the Practice Assistant Professor position seeks teaching-focused faculty members, who have a track strong record of research in engineering education and developing and publishing on innovative pedagogical techniques.
