Position Summary

This position is responsible for the purchase and management of multiple types of raw material cheeses along with communication of trim sale opportunities to customers.

Job Responsibilities:

• Daily review of current raw material cheese and trim inventory, volumes, ages, and incoming orders, versus demand for production orders at specific locations, dates, and amounts.
• Direct the creation and sending of necessary purchase orders for raw material cheese purchases.
• Communicating to vendors and internal stakeholders on cheese defects and quality concerns as well as organizing any returns of products deemed necessary.
• Sending available trim inventories to potential trim purchasers and approving some trim sales.
• Assist in identifying opportunities to reduce procurement spend while maintaining quality standards.
• Creation of material masters for new cheese types as well as trim materials in SAP.
• Answers questions brought forth by the cheese graders concerning cheese quality and testing requirements.
• Investigate cheese fitness for use issues in the Marathon plant as needed and other plants by phone or email. Make recommendations to correct as appropriate.
• Works closely with other departments to understand needs and align procurement activities with long-term objectives.

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS REQUIRED:

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business Management or Supply Chain required
• 5 years or more of progressive experience in a cheese packaging plant, related food packaging or other buying environment
• Ability to lead a team with daily and weekly work initiatives
• Strong user of ERP software, ideally SAP
• Regular use of logic and critical thinking to analyze a situation
• Ability to problem solve efficiently with open/honest communication
• Strong attention to detail
• Self-starter and the ability to learn on own
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
