The California Department of Justice’s Bureau of Firearms ensures that the state’s firearms laws are administered fairly, enforced vigorously, and understood uniformly throughout California. We are hiring a Supervising Program Technician II to assist with the Carry Concealed Weapons licensing program.

Under the general supervision of a Staff Services Manager, in the Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Licensing Team, the Supervising Program Technician II (SPT II) supervises technical operations in the Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Team. Duties include supervising support staff assigned to the CCW Licensing Team; assisting in planning and directing CCW Licensing Team technical operations; and advising the CCW License Team Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) of technical issues related to CCW firearms laws and regulations.

Working Conditions

Knowledge of: Modern office methods, equipment, and procedures; and appropriate laws, rules, regulations, and policies of the State of California governing the program area(s) for which the examination is being administered.

Ability to: Perform clerical and technical work; follow directions; evaluate situations accurately and take effective action; learn and apply laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and policies; make arithmetic calculations with speed and accuracy; read and write English at a level required for successful job performance; meet and deal tactfully with the public, co-workers and/or clients, either face-to-face or by telephone.

In addition, the SPT II should have the ability to research and reconcile incomplete or inaccurate records generated from reports and database systems; understand the criminal justice system, confidentiality, and State and Federal laws and regulations as it relates to an applicant's eligibility to purchase, possess, or own firearms in California; and communicate via phone, facsimile or email with law enforcement and other government agencies.
